Games about the challenges in different careers
Summary: Many professions face complex challenges that are often misunderstood or criticized. This project proposes to create engaging simulation games that enable players to embody and understand the roles of various careers, from police officers to politicians, highlighting their daily struggles while promoting empathy and respect for these positions.
There are some games online which offer great insight into particular career trajectories and the complications involved there. A few examples:
Trust and Safety Tycoon (https://trustandsafety.fun/) which illustrates challenges involved in content moderation on social media platforms. I played this a few times and it greatly increased how much I respect people in those roles now.
Moderator Mayhem, which is a previous variant on the same topic
PhD Simulator (https://research.wmz.ninja/projects/phd/index.html) which takes one through the journey of completing a PhD. Depending on what you choose to do each month, different things (like your mental health indicator change). If an indicator falls too much, you fail your PhD.
These games are often very interesting to play and I’d love to see more of these kinds of games. They offer so much insight into all these different jobs (often jobs we criticize). There’s plenty of scope to create new games here since virtually every profession has such challenges. I’m particularly interested in games with the context of (1) a police officer (could be themed on Money Heist), (2) a doctor in the emergency ward, (3) army commander (particularly interesting is if it is based on historical context like Nazi Germany), (4) factory owner (a tricky balance between good worker treatment and keeping finances in order), and (5) politician. You can probably get more interesting contexts from subreddits like “AskReddit”.

I just loved playing these games and wished there were more of them.
